17th WORLD CONFERENCE ON EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING (17WCEE) which had been postponed because of COVID19 was successfully held.
It was held from September 26th to October 2nd at Sendai International Center. There were about 3,000 attendees from about 80 countries including online participants.
Their Majesties Emperor and Empress attended Opening Ceremony and Keynote online.
Citizens also participated in Bosai/Disaster Management Expo which was held at the same time while implementing COVID19 safety measures. After such a long time, the Sendai International Center was again filled with energy.
We Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association supported the Convention from attraction stage to opening.
Before and during this Conference, we displayed Welcome posters in train cars of Sendai East-West subway line and at the arrival lobby of Sendai International Airport.
During the Conference, we set up Hospitality Desk at the venue and distributed “Lunch Passport” coupon book which was issued especially for this Conference. It is available at listed restaurants in Sendai city.
Special small Tanabata decoration kits and local crafts from souvenir shops, made available for purchase, were also very popular with participants.
