The 2nd Sendai Convention Hospitality Workshop was held on November 10, 2023 (Fri.) at the 4th floor conference room of the Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association (which the Sendai Convention Bureau is part of). The purpose of this workshop was to improve the level of MICE for supporting members, etc. Following the first meeting (held in October 2023), we discussed together how to specifically create and promote “SDGs for MICE”.
Participants included MICE facility management staff, a catering company representative, MICE staff from city hall, tourism staff from the Tohoku region, and sales representatives from various organizations.
After our bureau staff presented a short lecture of the previous program and discussions, participants were divided into two groups to create specific ideas for “Sendai-style MICE and SDGs. Finally, each group presented their ideas on how to realize their plans, including how to connect various stakeholders, how to share responsibilities, and how to raise funds. Oscar Tiku, Ph.D., Project Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, (affiliated with the research institute of the first session’s lecturer, Professor Kazuyo Matsubae), provided comments and advice on the ideas of each group.
The Sendai Convention Bureau will continue to be involved in improving the quality and knowledge of Sendai MICE with various stakeholders in the region.
